Best practice is to fix the issues with one OS version BEFORE upgraded to a newer and likely more-demanding one. Doing an OS upgrade to rid yourself of problems is similar to buying a new house to get rid of mice but taking the mice from the old house with you when you move!

Very likely your problem is the incredibly slow internal HDD in that model. An external boot SSD will dramatically speed up your entire computer.

HI, what problems did you have with Big Sur? Mine is incredibly slow to start up and do almost anything with Big Sur installed (iMac late 2015, 4K, quad core i7). Any help would be appreciated.
