macbook air 2017 doesn't reboot with shift cmd +R

On my Macbook Air 2017 I am unable to reinstall the original system which came with the machine.ù

Pressing Shift+COMMAND+R simply reboots the machine while (with ethernet connected and working) pressing COMMAND+R takes me to the internet for the standard functions

Is the SHIFT+COMMAND+R combination deprecated?

If yes how can I reinstall 10.12.5 (SIERRA fro the internet?)

Shift+option+command+R will perform an Internet recovery and install the operating system that shipped with your Mac (or the closest version still available). Option+command+R installs the latest operating system compatible with your Mac.
