Update failing

Tried software update to Big Sur. Stuck on black screen with apple logo for more than 2 hours. Help Please!!!

What to do?

If it doesn't move in a couple of hours power down & try a better Wifi connection, or Ethernet if possible.

Big Sur update hangs I am trying to upgrade to Big Sur. Download and verify went fine, started update. Projected time was “about28 min”. About 26 min in, the update hung, after five hours nothing had happened. Still have the Apple logo, time bar with about a quarter inch remaining. Can’t restart to try safe mode or any of the other recommended solutions. Tried the power button, put screen to sleep but when stared again I have the same screen. What action?

I was unable to update to big sur When I install, it seems to be fine, I tried to update but it never successfully went through. It went completely black, like shut off. When I powered on it would show the apple logo for less than 10 secs then go completely black. The only resolution was to put it in recovery and then use the previous os system. Am I going to be able to update to Big Sur? What is going on? apple support was not helpful
