Does the printer need to be already turned on for AirPrint to work?

Does the printer need to be already turned on for AirPrint to work? Unlike my old printer, my new Epson printer doesn’t show up as an option to print from unless I’ve already turned it on before attempting to print.

Yes, it needs to be on. Often a printer will stay in a low power mode while on to accept print commands.
