How to share photos on Photos using an external website

In the past I've used Flickr for sharing photos on my iMac because I don't know how to share large albums >25 photos just using Photos and my iMac. I know I need to add an extension for it but I don't know how to find an appropriate app or whatever that allows me to share photos. Since Photos has all my photos past and present, I'd rather not use Flickr which I have to pay for, and Apple should support this capability with something compatible with Photos within ios. Also, my intended audience doesn't necessarily have iPhones, etc. or iCloud.

That is for standard albums, not shared albums.

You need to create a shared album, and then click the people setting top right, and you can select to have a public webpage.

Then by right clicking on the album you can choose "visit website"

I attached a screenshot of my Photos with a Shared Album I named Alaska test. Do I change the Public Website to something else where I want to have the photos shared? The default is icloud which everyone doesn't have.

Hi Leonie,

Thanks for your reply. I do have shared albums in Photos so I know how to do that. But I don't know how to publish them as a website. I don't see that option in the Photos menu, only to print the album as a calendar, book, etc., which I don't want. Please let me know how to publish to a website.

There is no way to do that in Photos. Early versions of iPhoto had that facility but it was dropped long ago. You can export images in various sizes and then create your own HTML, or add them to a Wordpress site or similar.

Thanks! I'm able to post photos to the icloud website. When I was creating a new shared album earlier, I thought I noticed you could add a comment for each photo you added. But just now I don't see that capability - just allows 1 comment for the whole shared album. Is there a way to add captions?

Thanks to all who contributed to getting my question answered. I was able to post 40+ photos and videos for about 70 people. People with iOS were able to subscribe and comment, which I didn’t expect. Now I can cancel my Flickr subscription.

You can share your photos from Photos by creating Shared Albums. A shared album can be published as a website and you can send the link to this website to the people you invite to view this album.

My understanding is if you set it as "public website", all invitees can see it even if they don’t use iCloud.

It is a webpage using iCloud infrastructure. No one needs an iCloud accout to see it.

Open it on your computer, copy the link and send the link to anyone you like.

No - shared albums are pretty limited. They don't show any metadata except the capture date. It is also not possible to sort them. They appear in the order they were added.
