My new Imac will not update to big sur.

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.15

You need a Late-2014 or newer iMac in order to meet the hardware requirements for Big Sur. You will also need 35.5 GB of available storage before the installation would be successful on a qualifying Mac. You can confirm the iMac product description line, including its market introduction date from the Apple menu icon > About This Mac.
