Mail using a huge amount of iMac storage

In our 27" iMac running OS 11.6 (Big Sur) the Mail app (14.0) is using over 500 GB of storage! I don''t understand how this is possible.

When I look in the Mail library it looks like "Gmail drafts" is using 719 GB of the storage.

Does anyone have an idea about what I can do to reclaim this hard drive storage?

many thanks for the collective wisdom of this community

Problem resolved! I called Apple support and received the advice to delete and reinstall the two IMAP mail accounts that we had. Upon reinstalling, memory use is back to the expected level.

Just for accuracy purposes - Memory is Random Access Memory ( RAM ) and Disk Space is what is occupying space on the drive.
