Mail unreadable with Dark Appearance

With Appearance set to Dark (or, in the night, to Auto) in System Preferences .. General, HTML messages are unreadable (dark on dark). Is there a way to turn off Dark mode for individual apps (such as Mail), or is it all-or-nothing?

TIA,

You can do View->Message->Show with Light Background.

I think this is done by message.

To make this easier, I suggest you add a keyboard shortcut to it in System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts->App Shortcuts.

Then it will be as easy as pressing that shortcut any time you want to view a message with light background
