Safari bookmarks

I recently had an update to my OS and now when I open Safari, I do not get my bookmarks list, although I used to. How can I fix this?

Safari -> View -> Show Bookmarks Sidebar.

Then Bookmarks icon wil show up.

I can't make bookmarks on Safari. I am running Sonoma 14.0 on Mac Air M2. I can't make bookmarks on Safari. Would appreciate any suggestions. Have very slow internet connection where I am so haven't done the update on Sonoma. This has been going on for about a month.

Safari bookmarks/reading list The attached is what I see in Safari--it used to show just my bookmarks. Is there a way to remove the reading list and default to bookmarks? Cheers from Boston
