Ipad mini 6 wifi keep droping

Hi, I just purchased the iPad mini 6 today. However, after I set it up, the wifi connection just kept dropping and reconnecting. I could not even download the newest update. Does anyone experience the same?

  1. Update your office or home Wi-Fi router's firmware to the latest version. Outdated firmware often causes connection problems. Some routers automatically check for firmware updates. If yours doesn't, visit the router manufacturer's website and look for firmware on the Downloads or Support page.
  2. Determine whether your router uses WEP, WPA or WPA2 security. To do this, open your Internet browser on a computer and visit the router's configuration page. If the router uses WEP security, switch to WPA or WPA2. According to Apple, WEP security may cause regular disconnects.
  3. Renew the iPad's DHCP lease. Tap "Settings" and "Wi-Fi." Tap the arrow to the right of your preferred wireless network and select "Renew Lease."
  4. Erase the network that gives you problems with connectivity. Tap "Settings" and "Wi-Fi." Select the desired network and then tap "Forget this Network." This option erases the settings for this network, so you need to re-enter them.
  5. Reset the settings for all the networks on the iPad if the problem persists. Tap "Settings," "General" and "Reset." Tap "Reset Network Settings." Re-enter the configuration information for each network.
  6. Restart the iPad after renewing your IP address or resetting the Wi-Fi network settings. To restart the iPad, hold down the "Sleep/Wake" button. When the red slider appears, slide it to turn off the device. Hold the "Sleep/Wake" button again to turn on the iPad.

Thanks

There are too many of us having this problem, I am really disappointed with this and to say the least frustrated! I have 2 other ipads and a mac and I do not have a problem with any of them. They recommend to download the latest ios version but how am I supposed to do that if the wifi keeps dropping? I guess my only choice is to get my money back if they do not solve this issue soon.

You would have to update with your iPad to a full computer, like a Mac or Windows PC, try either using the Finder on a Mac that has the newest macOS Catalina installed OR with an older Mac with an older Mac OS, download and install the latest iTunes version ( or latest iTunes for Windows PC ), make sure the Mac or Windows PC is connected to the Internet, connect your iPad by the USB charge cable to the computer and let the iTunes application upgrade/update that iPad model, using the iTunes Software Update feature, to its current, maximum OS of iPadOS 15.1.

Make sure your iPad is, at least, charged to 50% or greater to attempt this.

Also, make sure to do a backup of your iPad's data, prior to upgrading/updating.

Backup to Apple iCloud and/or a full Mac or Windows PC using the same iTunes app OR, if a newer Mac running macOS Catalina, or later, making a backup using the macOS Finder app.

If NO access to a Mac or Windows computer, you will have to seek help from a good friend or family member, with a full Mac or Windows PC, to help you out

OR

Search online to locate and call contact your nearest, “local” Apple Store location to try/attempt to make an appointment to get your Apple iPad upgraded/updated to its latest iPadOS 15 version.

Apple Store employees will be glad to help/assist you.

Best of Luck to You!

Hi @jeffsiver

Sorry to hear you are still having problems.

Question: when you did your manual install, did your WiFI network appear and connect automatically?

Mine did. Which I wasn't expecting.

I went into settings and 1) turned off auto-join, 2) selected forget this network, and 3) turned the device off, and then back on.

I then reconnected my WiFi. You'll need to retype in the network password.

I'm actually getting better up/down speeds than the expected bandwidth I'm paying for.

Hope this helps.

After doing the restore, I had to manually enter the wifi credentials; it did not automatically connect.

Further on, after reconnecting to my iCloud account, I did notice that my other wifi network (I have a main & guest network) was setup. I have noticed that when I forget the network and manually add it back, the problem does seem to be better for a while.

And, like everyone else, I have no issue with iPhone or MacBook connecting to the same wireless network.

Same problem here. I did everything including resetting the iPad, and then the problems started again during configuration. As mentioned before, don't bother to try any of those suggested steps. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with the device. What actually did work was setting the Wifi network to 2.4 GHz. For the time being, I keep my iPad mini 4 and consider returning the new one.
