I’ve purchased a new MacBook Air and trying to transfer the data from an older MacBook Pro High Sierra.
Everything was going fine until the transfer started. It’s been 4 hours and it looks like it isn’t doing anything as no files have transferred according to the new Mac screen.
Ready online suggests it can take hours, but should the screen at least indicate that something has transferred?
any help appreciated

How are you doing the transfer? Using wifi is not a good process as it can be slow and fail. Best method is to use a Time Machine backup drive connected directly to your new Mac. You should see movement of the transfer although it may be slow at times.
