how can I recover deleted messages and deleted photos?

Photos deleted from an album are moved into the "recently deleted" album. You can recover from there.
If you deleted items from "recently deleted," they are now permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
Messages are deleted immediately and cannot be recovered.
If you do NOT use messages in iCloud, you may be able to restore your device from a backup to recover old messages (albeit at the expense of anything new since the last backup)
