foreign language keypad disappeared

I have a MacBook Air. Once I could go to the top of the screen (right) and choose the language I wanted to type in. A small square keypad would then appear and I could type in PAGES etc using this keypad. Now, if I choose a language, nothing happen. No keypad.

Any idea how to resolve this? Thanks.

Go to system preferences > keyboard > keyboard and make sure you have checked the box for Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar. Also system preferences > keyboard > input sources and make sure you have checked the box for Show input menu in menu bar.

Exactly what foreign language are you talking about?
