I recently discontinued my monthly subscription to Apple Music. My entire music library has now disappeared from my iPhone and MacBook - is that the reason? In any event, how can I restore it?

If you cancel your Apple Music subscription or let it expire, there is no guarantee if or for long after the last billing cycle your music library will be retained. Sorry, but you will have to start from scratch.
