a quicker way to sample fonts?

Is there a quicker way to sample fonts without having to scroll down the list after every change? It kills me to choose a font, decide not quite right, (the font window will close) leaving you to have to scroll the entire list again in order to choose another font. There has got to be a quicker way! Can I not arrow thru the list with the word highlighted and see each font instantly??

You can open Font Book, select All Fonts, and select the text toolbar item. You can then preview the font in a Lorem Ipsum paragraph at a selectable font size. This is a better font illustration than what may be presented on an application's font menu.
