apple watch series 2

Display fails to turn on when wrist is raised! Just started happening. On tapping the screen the display lights up!

Any solution, other than getting a new watch?

Make sure you are not in Theater Mode. See the 'Check your settings and battery' section in:

Use Control Center on your Apple Watch - Apple Support
