Entering Kanji

I used to use an old I book with the old OSX Panther, in the Edit/Special Characters, it had Japanese Kanji, Hiragana and Katakana, the new systems don't seem to have them, how can I get them onto the new "Emoji and Symbols" in TextEdit, or get hold of the old software.

You just go to the gear wheel at the top left of the Character Viewer and click on Customize., then check the box for Unicode or any of the Chinese or Japanese items on the list.

Of course you can also use the Japanese input method in system prefs > keyboard > input sources.

Thanks for that, when I was trying to find them I missed that bit. It is useable, but the favourites list seems to insist on justifying itself (removing holes) when I move them around to arrange them for convenience, while the old Panther version left holes, which was a more logical way to handle a large favourites list. That is when you had a section set it would stay in the same place, not move out of line.

The "Add to Favorites" and "Remove from Favorites" buttons do not mention a key stroke short cut to operate (I tried some guesses but they did not work, does one exist?).

Thanks again
