First try a restart of the Apple TV and router/modem/access point, as that will help for some causes. And it’s easy.

Is your internet connection sufficient for streaming HD TV? (8 Mbps or more available per device)

Is your home network largely free from interference? Neighboring networks ‘jam’ the Wi-Fi signal for overlapping frequencies (Wi-Fi channels). Metal and electrical wiring can also diminish the signal.

To check the local network get a report on your computer using iStumbler, NetStumbler or similar. Look for signal strength, noise, nearby networks.

Have you tried ethernet instead of Wi-Fi?

If the issue persists even in optimal conditions, then try to reset the device to factory settings.

This sounds like a poor network connection. Please begin by trying:


1.     Unplug your modem from its power source and Restart Modem.

2.     Unplug your router from its power source and Restart router.

3.     Unplug Apple TV from Power for 2-3 minutes – re-plug in and retest.
