safari "from macbook" showing old tabs that have been closed

on my iphone when i scroll down in safari to see currently open tabs on my macbook, i instead see old closed tabs. this also has started happening on my macbook, with the "from iphone" section displaying old closed tabs. i've tried to reopen and close the tabs but nothing seems to get rid of them.
