How to turn hotspot off?
iPhone 5c, iOS 10
On the device generating the hotspot go to Settings->Personal Hotspot->Allow others to Join, set it to off.
On the connected devices, simply turn off Wi-Fi or connect to a different network.

Settings > Personal Hotspot.. or Settings > Cellular > Personal Hotspot (my phone has both paths), turn off the toggle switch 'Allow Others to Join' so that it does not show green
