At random times, for no reason I can discern, my pointer suddenly becomes huge and won't track properly. This is a brand new iMac, not even 6 months old yet, and this is the mouse that came with it. What is going on??? It's SO irritating to move the mouse and the cursor turns into a giant and moves a fraction of an inch to my sweeping it across the screen.

Hmm…. go to Apple > System Preferences > Accessibility > Mouse and try unchecking Shake mouse pointer to locate.
