macbook air 2017 not charging

My Macbook air 2017 will not charge- it will not turn on without the power cord plugged in and the cord remains red when plugged in? thanks

If your Mac battery won’t charge - Apple Support

If it doesn't help, try to check your MacBook Air battery related hardware with Apple Diagnostics.
