macOS Big Sur?

will my pages and numbers files be able to be opened after up grading from high sierra to big sur?

Pages, using two different OS versions. If I save a Pages file, in Big Sur, will I be able to open it with Pages, under Catalina? My iMac cannot be upgraded to Big Sur, so I'm wondering if I'm better off keeping Catalina on my MacBook Air, rather than upgrading to Big Sur (my iMac is from 2012, and my MacBook Air is from 2017).

I have an older version of pages on my macbook 2011. How can I open new pages docs on it? Why can't I open pages, numbers or keynote docs anymore on this device?

Yes. You will want to go to the App Store and download the latest versions of those apps:

Pages V11.1

Numbers V11.1

Keynote V11.1
