Removing photos from apple watch

I received a notification that my watch storage is full. It said to go to apple watch app on my phone to remove photos. When I go to the app I can only access updating and since I have no storage I cannot update. This is VERY frustrating. How can I remove the photos on my watch without removing them from my other devices????
