Photos importing from SD Card
Photos regularly fails to import all new photos from SD Card on first attempt -if eject card and re insert it finds the ones it failed to import. Happened on 2015 iMac and now happening on M1 iMac

Reformat the card in the camera, take some test shots and see if that will fix the problem. Or try a different memory card.

Thanks, tried it and makes no difference - from 38 photos only downloaded 34, from 30 downloaded 27. If I remove the card then reinsert it it finds the missing files or if I drag them across from a finder window they import ok. There is a .mts file on the card as well as the .jpgs.
The .mts file is most likely an AVCHD video, high compression and high quality, like the HEIC photos.
