No Airports of any sort (express, extreme, time capsule) since April 2018.
Mesh is all the go now. Depends on how big your house is, layout and materials, and how much stuff you have plus are you ready for wifi6 (AX) which is now coming out on new products or still wifi5 (AC) which is adequate for stuff up to 2020 for the most part.
Good reviews here
wifi5 https://dongknows.com/best-wi-fi-5-mesh-systems/
wifi6 https://dongknows.com/best-wi-fi-6-mesh-systems/
As well as lots of router reviews.
I personally use Asus AC model RT-AC88u. Model has high points from Mr Dong. It is fairly old now and any upgrade will be to RT-AX86U ... at least for now.
Also read one issue with most mesh is the requirement for cloud signup and configuration.

As an older person myself signing up to cloud system located where in the world??? which sees all your local devices and network interactions is not my idea of security.
So my pick for mesh is only those that allow local setup.
Otherwise I don't need mesh as I have the place fully wired with ethernet. A far better strategy anyway.

A 10 second Google search of "Mesh WiFi Systems" will produce dozens of articles. Example......
