Apple watch not recording/recognising fitness correctly

Hello! I have been using my watch for years- avid exerciser- and all of a sudden this week have run into a glitch. Example: I do a 60 minute cycling workout and it "credits" me 2 minutes of my 30 minute exercise goal for the day. When I'm cycling I initiate the exercise time and hit "Indoor Cycle" just like I always have. The Active Calories also seem askew- seems to also be on the low side of what it should be. This has also happened this week with walking- it almost seems like the calibration is off somehow. I have googled and tried everything I've come across online already and am still not having any luck. I did upgrade my phone 2 weeks ago to a 12, but this problem surfaced just a few days ago.

Any suggestions are so appreciated!

Thank you!

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
