time machine will not unmount

I am trying to run First Aid to recover 4TB of drive space from a previous Time Machine backup. the error message states that it will not unmount

Time Machine failure or Drive failure We were unable to access Time Machine on our 2015 MBP 16MB 1 TB OS12.4 and an external Seagate 2TB SRDONF1. I entered Time Machine and it seemed, normal however when I attempted togo aback in time I was unable to go back more than a couple of hours. I didn't note just how far. When I checked the drive using Disk Utility it reported that it had 440GB on it. When I plugged it into my M1MM I could see that had about 60 files on it that appear to be backup files with names like 2021-08-30-102227. Does this appear to be a drive failure or a software problem?

Time Machine not recognized and not backing up I'm unable to backup to my Time Machine. The TM disk does not show on my desktop or disk utility. It can be seen in the Time Machine preferences, but I can't select it, I can only "Remove Disk" (see attached). Also, my Time Machine disk is a partition (I can see the partition that isn't Time Machine however). I've tried restarting, turning off the disk and starting it again. Nothing works. Because disk utility can't see it, I can't repair it. What else can I do?

Also, not a good idea removing Snap Shots from the TM Drive. It just results in have to does as you did - Wipe the Drive and start again.
