MacBook Pro 2016 keyboard unresponsive (except power button)

Hi, my MacBook Pro 13 inch from 2016 is working fine in terms of the display and track pad but the keyboard has all of a sudden stopped working completely! The only thing that works is the power button on the keyboard which is weird. Is there anyway to fix this myself? If not, how much is it to professionally fix? Or should I replace the whole thing? - thanks

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.14

Have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop to provide you with a repair estimate. While there is a free Apple keyboard repair program I'm not sure your issue will be covered by it since the whole keyboard is not functioning. In the mean time you can use a wired USB keyboard.

Make sure to have a good backup before having the laptop examined or repaired.

Here is information on the free Apple keyboard repair program (only valid for up to four years after purchase):

FYI, here is the current list of the publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some products such as your laptop may have multiple programs available):

Edit: Try restarting the laptop. Disconnect all external devices from the laptop. See if you can perform an SMC reset using the internal keyboard (must use the internal keyboard). Try a PRAM Reset (may use the external USB keyboard -- try holding the reset for at least two chimes if possible).

Its all worked out. Just pressed command, ctrl and the power button. Then when the MacBook turned back on, the keyboard was fine.

It happened again recently where the keyboard was unresponsive so I did the same thing again and it worked again. Annoying but at least I don’t have to replace the whole thing!

If a Mac has ever been through component repair, these symptoms are typically due to the trackpad-keyboard cable inside the machine either improperly connected or being damaged. Bring to an authorized service provider even if out of warranty and ask them to look at that possibility.
