Samsung M2022W AirPrint document printing issue: UNIRAST

Hi Apple Community,

I cannot make my Samsung XPress M2022W AirPrint printer to print documents. It prints out all papers in tray printing only 1 line on each page: "UNIRAST" and some unrecogniseable letters.

Pictures printing fine, but not a single document is printed.

Latest firmware: V3.00.01.11 OCT-02-2014

Latest driver: Samsung_Mac_10.15_Driver_V3.92.00

Latest MacOS: Big Sur 11.4

Please help me this issue is killing me.

Best,

Sandor

Hi Sandor, it sounds a bit like it;s sending Postscript to a non-postscript printer, but not enough to go on.

Start up a Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.
  2. After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.
  3. Press and hold the power button on your Mac until the startup options window appears showing available startup disks and Options.
  4. Select a startup disk.
  5. Press and hold the Shift key, click Continue in Safe Mode, then release the Shift key.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally, without pressing and holding any keys during startup.

Or...

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.

Resetting the printing system in Mac OS X

  1. To use the Reset Printing System feature in Mac OS X, follow these steps:
  2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
  3. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
  4. Control-click on list of printers on the left side of the window, then choose "Reset printing system" from the contextual menu. If you don't see a list of printers, Control-click on the text "Click + to add a printer or fax" and select "Reset printing system..."
  5. As an alternative, if you currently have one or more printers listed, you can Option-click the "-" (Remove printer) button.

Reboot.

Hello Sandor,

Thank you for the report.

>Its AirPrint connected, so no cables at all.

AirPrint in this context does not mean wirelessly connected. In fact, the AirPrint technology can be used via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. The main thing is that it is the same network (subnet).

>Using Samsung's latest driver and firmware

AirPrint also means that you do not have to install drivers from the printer manufacturer. AirPrint is a driverless technology. An AirPrint printer's way of interacting with computers and other devices is determined by its firmware. A computer only needs its own macOS software for AirPrint communication, not extra drivers. An iPhone, similarly, does not require anything but iOS in order to print to an AirPrint-enabled printer.

When one can print from an iPhone (without an extra app), it shows that the printer is using AirPrint.

To begin with, what happens if you remove the aforementioned Samsung driver from the computer, and then reset the printing system, and re-add the M2022W as an AirPrint printer? Albeit from a different manufacturer, a guide at https://www.canon-europe.com/support/consumer_products/apple_airprint_guide/#Pmac shows how to connect a printer using AirPrint.

If the problem with document printing persists after this test, you may want to carry out a comparative test with the printer connected to the computer via USB instead, now using a Samsung driver.

One can never rule out software conflicts in a situation like this. Data may be lost. So, make sure that you have several backup copies of all important files (documents, photos, et cetera).

Hi,

How is the printer connected? For the driverless AirPrint (About AirPrint - Apple Support) technology to work, the printer and the computer must be connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router). In this case, you should not need separate drivers from the printer manufacturer.

Make sure that AirPrint is enabled on the printer.

You could also use an iPhone/iPad to test printing via AirPrint.

Hi, thank you for your answer!

On my old MBP (2014) it always worked like a charm, no issues at all.

Using Samsung's latest driver and firmware as I mentioned in the first post. Updated all because of this issue.

Its AirPrint connected, so no cables at all.

The printer is on the AirPrint capable Apple list.

iPhone prints fine.

Best,

Sandor
