Can’t connect iPhone remote to Apple TV

IPhone 11 with IOS 14.6. Apple TV with tvOS 14.6. Native remote app on iPhone doesn’t connect, but the remote that came with Apple TV does. Both devices on same network. Modem for home rebooted. The iPhone connects fine with two other Apple TV’s on the same network-just not this one. Checked for updates on both devices. Rebooted both devices. Force closed all apps on both devices. What can I do so my phone native remote app can work again with this Apple TV?

Nevermind… Had to reset the whole thing to factory defaults. Remote works on phone, at the expense of figuring out my passwords for and reinstalling all my apps now. Frustrating “answer” if you’ve read this far I’m sure…

When I try “Reset and Update” it sits at preparing update for a long time with the progress bar moving. Then I get a message that says “Update Unsuccessful. Try again later.” So I try again later. Same result.
