How do I use a USB and Lightning Port to add an external monitor to my macbook air?

Hi,

If you mean USB you mentioned was USB-C, USB-C to DVI or USB-C to VGA adapter or USB-C to USB-C cable if your monitor has USB-C port is available to connect your external monitor to your MacBook Air.

You can't use Lightning port to connect external monitor.
