M1 iMac screen glitches when dragging graphic

I have a new M1 iMac. In programs where I'm dragging graphics across the screen (Illustrator, mostly), the screen tries to render each stage of the drag, meaning the graphic elements repeats and repeats, taking up the entire screen, and making it impossible to see where I'm going or when to drop the graphic in its desired location. This is very frustrating. Is there a solution or a setting to change?

Are these native M1 apps? if not, it could be a Rosetta bug, and should go away once you go Native.
