How do I pair an old wireless keyboard with a new mac mini?

Hi,
I upgraded from a 2012 mini to the new M1 and am using the v1 Apple Bluetooth Keyboard and Trackpad from the 2012 to the new one . I had trouble getting them to connect until I went back to 2012 mini and unpaired them. After that they connected to the new M1 the same as they did with the 2012 mini.
I am assuming those are the peripherals you are trying to use.
