Magic Keyboard/Magic Trackpad 2 can't wake Mac from sleep, but USB mouse can

I recently upgraded from the old AA battery-powered Apple Wireless Keyboard (A1314) and Magic Trackpad to the rechargeable Apple Magic Keyboard (2017 model) and Magic Trackpad 2.

My 2020 MacBook Pro, running macOS 11.4, sits with the lid closed and connected to power and two external monitors. The old keyboard/trackpad could easily wake the Mac from sleep, but the new ones can't! I also have a Logitech mouse that's connected to my MacBook via a USB dongle, and it can successfully wake it from sleep.

I checked System Preferences > Bluetooth > Advanced..., and the "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" settings is on. I also rebooted my Mac on the off chance that would help. The devices don't seem to be disconnecting entirely, as they work proper as soon as the Mac is awakened (either by the USB mouse or by opening the lid and hitting the power button).

Any idea why these new Bluetooth peripherals can't wake my Mac, but the old ones could?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

If this is a 2020 Intel Mac—

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

If this is a 2020 M1 Mac —try a Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

then reboot as normal and test
