Not in version 10.

Last version of iMovie that had that option was iMovie HD 6 , some 15 years or so ago.

If you capture using QuickTime Player > File > New Movie Recording then scene breaks are ignored .

The capture will not be in .dv format , as in iMovie 10, but will be either H264 or ProRes depending on the quality setting that you choose from the selection provided. HIGH =H264 . MAXIMUM = ProRes . The ProRes files are large .

You would then need to import this one long file into iMovie .

Having scene breaks can sometimes be useful when editing, for example you may choose not to use some of the clips which are already "split " for you .

You probably know this already, but the scene breaks play seamlessly in the timeline. Is there a particular reason you do not want scene breaks ?

See item 2 for choosing your external camcorder.
