when i delete a folder from photos the pictures in it remain; how do i delete the folder and all the pictures. This is on a MAC version 11.4

You need to delete the pictures from the album first.
Select them all, hold down the CMD key while pressing the delete key (or use imgage>delete with the CMD key). Bear in mind this deletes them also from the library, and all other albums they may be added to.
