Which system version is installed on your iMac? On OS X 10.10.3 Yosemite or newer you need IPhoto 9,6.1. You need to own an AppStore version of iPhoto to be able to update to this version. it will run on all system versions up to macOS 14 Mojave, the end of the rope for IPhoto. If you do not own an AppStore version of IPhoto, there is no way to get a. compatible version for any system version released after 2015, when Apple stopped the development of iPhoto and replaced it by Photos.
