why is my iphone taking up all its storage with the "other" section?

hello, im not sure why my phone is taking up all my space i literally cannot even download apps anymore or photos and i have like 100 photos and 6 apps i really use, my phone has 64GB but 40GB is being used for other in my storage. i tried researching my best on this and did my best but nothing worked.
