Microphone not working on apps

If I record a voice memo, send a voice note or record a video on snapchat my mic sounds like I'm in a wind-tunnel! It doesn't happen when I record a video on the camera or when I call people so it must be a software issue and not an actual problem with the microphone, how do o fix it?
