Touch bar suddenly gone.

My touch bar not only isn't working, but it isn't showing up on system preferences? When I go to the keyboard tab in system preferences, the touch bar options are completely gone as if I never had the touch bar in the first place? I restart and shut down my macbook and also made sure it was up to date but the problem isn't solved.
