Charging iPad

When I try to charge my iPad I have to plug and unplug about15 times before it will charge why is that? I have a new charging cable from Apple it will charge my iPhone or when I plug it into my wife’s iPad it works fine but not on mine. I’ve cleaned the port and end of the plug and still have the same results.
