Word for Mac Formatting Issue

Hello All. I am attempting to reformat a word document so the first line of a new paragraph automatically indents. While I have been able to do this, there are some paragraphs that should not have their first line indented. When I reformat the document those (intentionally) not indented lines become indented. Understandable. But, when I delete to "un-indent" the line I find that it cancels auto indent for the document (to be clear, paragraphs that were indented stay indented, but a new paragraph will not be auto-indented.) What, if anything, can I do?

When they instruct you to open dialogue boxes and access dropdowns, etc. that do not appear on a Mac... I would say that's a problem. In any event. I have access to google. I'm aware of Microsoft. I was hoping someone might have had a similar problem and offer some insight/help. Clearly, you are not that person. Good day.
