Did you ever get a real solution to this problem? After one workout with my watch, it no longer syncs correctly with the activity app. I have to exercise an extra 10-13 minutes to close my ring. I don’t mind doing that but I must admit it is annoying.

I have about the same workout all the time. At least when I walk. On some days, about 1/2 of the days I walk, the workout records the walk, but does not send that to the workout apps and my rings don't close. Calibrating is not workiing.
