iTunes gift card won't redeem

I purchased an iTunes gift card in Spain on my uk iPad mini, it won't redeem

If it's saying that the card wasn't activated properly, go back to the store, or click here and ask the iTunes Store staff for assistance.

If not, post the exact error message you get.

I understand as I'm in Spain but when I put the cardnumber in it says go to counter where I purchased it.I did but they did not know how to put it on my device and would not refund me as I had revealed the card code!

iTunes Store gift cards can only be redeemed or spent in the country they originated from.
