Link IMac to Macbook Air (Monitor one to another)

Dear users,

I have an IMac and and a Macbook air. I wait to use one of them as a monitor to the other. My IMac is from 2017/18 and the MacAir is from 2016.

Can I link one to another and use one of them as a monitor? Can I do without a third part app? And if not, what is the best app could be in this situation?

Thanks a baunch!

Note: Target Display Mode isn’t supported on iMac models with Retina display. Only iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010), and iMac (Mid 2011 to Mid 2014) support Target Display Mode.

Target Display Mode can be used whereby an iMac turns into an external display when connected to another Mac. Your MacBook Air cannot act as an external display at all.

Having said the above, your 2017/2018 iMac cannot be used as an external display through the Target Display Mode.
