My iPad is disabled and iTunes doesn't appear to recognize it

I initially forgot the passcode on my ipad. I now remember it but tried too many times with the wrong passcode. Now my ipad says it is disabled. It says to connect to itunes which I tried to do but my itunes account does not appear to recognize the ipad.

It's referring to iTunes on a computer(use the Finder if on a Mac running Catalina or newer). If you're already looking at it, click here and follow the instructions.
