Epson released an updated scanner (ICA v5.8.9) driver in Jan 2021 that is intended to support Apple's Image Capture in macOS Big Sur . The real question, and they do not differentiate, is the scanner driver compatibility for Intel and arm64 (M1) platforms?
The Scanner Driver and Epson 2 Utility v6.4.94 that was released in early Oct 2020, nearly 45 days before Big Sur was officially released — could not have been tested with subsequent beta builds, or the official release of BIg Sur. Do not download that.
