Macbook Pro - power issue on waking

I have a 2017 Macbook Pro that is having a strange issue - if the computer has maybe half or less of a charge on the battery, and then goes to sleep, whenever I wake it up again on battery power it will almost immediately (a few seconds) go back to sleep. Then when I push the power button it shows the graphic that indicates the battery is dead and needs to be charged. However the battery is not dead, and when I plug it in and start it back up it confirms that there is still a good amount of battery left.

If I start from 100%, I can use the computer on battery power all the way until it is essentially dead, so I don't think this is the battery. It only happens after waking up from sleep with a partial charge.

Any ideas? It's a big issue when I'm working away from the office.
