Easier way of transferring Photos from External Hard Drive to Photos app.

I have an external hard drive that is keeping some older photos of mine from my MacBook, which was sadly dead as of last week. I would like to plug it in to my iPad and transfer the photos to my Photos app, but I noticed all of my photos are in a bunch of little photos.

right now, it seems as if I have to go in and individually save each photo to my Photos app, which may take forever. Is there any easier way from the photos app to find all the photos on my hard drive and transfer them all over to the photos app? If this isn’t a feature, they should add it in the future to make it easier to sync files over.
